New Zealand Forest Geckos (Hoplodactylus granulatus) are nocturnal-hunting lizards that thrive in mixed broadleaf, beech and podocarp forests and manuka/ kanuka scrub - all of which can be found in the Rimutaka Forest Park. They eat insects, fruit, nectar and berries and are hard to find during the daytime due to their chameleon-like ability to change their skin colour to match their surroundings.
